F.A.Q’s About ST.TROPEZ
How does ST.TROPEZ work? ST.TROPEZ formulations contain Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), a colourless extract from sustainable sugarcane, which interacts with the amino acids (proteins) in the surface epidermal layers of the skin to produce a permanent colour change of those skin cells. Skin cells shed every 7-10 days. As a result a sunless tan will only last as long as this cycle.
Will I turn orange or go too dark? ST.TROPEZ is well known for delivering a natural golden glow. This is due to our unique blend of tanning agents and skin conditioning ingredients. These work to the individual’s skin tone to deliver a natural finish that will not develop ‘orange’.
Will my tan appear streaky or patchy? The ST.TROPEZ Self Tan and Self Tan Dark range contain a guide colour so you can see exactly where you apply it. You don’t need to worry about applying too much – only missed bits can give an uneven or patchy finish. The ST.TROPEZ Gradual Tan and Purity Self Tan ranges do not contain a guide colour but do leave a wet sheen on the skin so you can see where you have applied. We also recommend using an ST.TROPEZ Applicator Mitt to apply any product to ensure a flawless finish. We also fully recommend daily moisturizing and exfoliating skin twice a week for a long-lasting streak-free finish and even fade.
Does ST.TROPEZ have a strong self tan smell? The scent that everyone associates with self tanning is caused by the tanning agent DHA. ST.TROPEZ contains mood-boosting technology, which works to mask the smell. The mood-boosting fragrance contains notes of bergamot and green apple. These ingredients are designed to make the whole tanning process a lot more pleasant and enjoyable.
Is ST.TROPEZ toxic in any way? None of the active ingredients in ST.TROPEZ have any know toxicity. All our tanning products are formulated with Vegan friendly and 100% naturally derived DHA.
How long will my tan last? A tan will last between 7-10 days depending on your skin type, how you’ve prepped, and your after-care regimen. To ensure that your tan fades away evenly, apply ST.TROPEZ Tan Enhancing Moisturizer daily and ST.TROPEZ Body Polish twice a week.
Can I swim once I have applied ST.TROPEZ? It is advisable to allow 4-12 hours development of your tan before washing or swimming. Once your tan has developed you can swim but sea water and chlorinated pools could result in your tan fading more quickly.
Can ST.TROPEZ products be used during pregnancy? The Cosmetic Toiletry and Perfumery Association (CTPA) confirm that spray tan and self tanning products are safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding (lactating mothers may choose to avoid the breast area during the breast feeding stage). Although there are no known dangers of using tanning products, they can sometimes cause an allergic reaction, particularly during pregnancy when hormone levels are high and skin becomes more sensitive. As with all treatment ST.TROPEZ recommends that a patch test is undertaken at least 24 hours before a tanning treatment and that this is of paramount importance for pregnant women. We do advise anyone who is pregnant or has a pre-existing condition or existing health concern to consult their doctor prior to starting a tanning regime.
Will ST.TROPEZ reduce the appearance of stretch marks or scars? A tan can help to reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scars. Apply a ST.TROPEZ Self Tan product to the area with a cotton bud. Leave for at least 8 hours and then wash away the guide colour, then apply your all-over tan as normal. If the tan is not dark enough, repeat approximately every 8 hours until satisfied.
If I have vitiligo (skin lacks pigment) will ST.TROPEZ disguise this? ST.TROPEZ can help minimize the appearance of Vitiligo. We recommend you apply a ST.TROPEZ Self Tan product to the lighter areas with a cotton bud and allow to dry. Leave for at least 8 hours and then wash away the guide colour. If the tan is not dark enough repeat the process. Alternatively ST.TROPEZ Instant Tan can be applied to the area as a temporary cover-up measure.
Does ST.TROPEZ protect me from U.V. exposure? No, there is no UVA/UVB protection in ST.TROPEZ products. It is very important that you still use sun protection when exposing your skin to the sun.
What should I do if I'm worried about being sensitive or allergic to ST.TROPEZ? Although extremely rare, always seek medical advice if you think you have had an allergic reaction to any cosmetic products. We recommend that you carry out a patch test 24 hours before using ST.TROPEZ products whether at home or in salon for the first time. An allergic reaction may occur if the person is allergic to aloe or citrus. If concerned, conduct a small patch test in a sensitive area such as the wrist or behind the ear 24 hours before application.
What can cause my tan to not last or fade too quickly?
- Improper prep
- Sea/chlorinated water
- Not following the mandatory tan development time
- Topical prescription medications such as Retinol and Retin-A derivatives
- Oral prescription medications such as thyroid medications and Accutane
- Treatments such as hormone replacement therapy, radiation and chemotherapy
-
Serums, masks and moisturizers containing AHA’s, lightening/brightening agents and certain anti-aging skin care products can prevent self-tanning from developing and cause fading.
Will my tan last longer or turn out better if I apply extra coats/layers? Additional volume of product will not result in a darker tan or increased longevity. The percentage of DHA determines the depth of your tan. If a darker tan is desired, a higher percentage of DHA is required.
Can I mix ST.TROPEZ solution with another brand? Though you can mix ST.TROPEZ solutions together, we do not recommend mixing with other brand solutions. There are many forums that discuss the benefits and results of this but in the occurrence of a reaction to product, ST.TROPEZ will not be held responsible.
